Nissan's e-POWER system uses a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine to generate electricity, while the wheels themselves are driven by electric motors. That means smooth, immediate response and quiet low-speed driving - but instead of stopping to charge, you simply fill up with petrol and keep going.

Add e-4ORCE and you get a 150kW front motor and 100kW rear motor, with Nissan continuously managing power between all four wheels for traction, stability and control. Selectable Auto, Eco, Sport, Snow and Off-Road modes let you tailor the X-Trail to the journey, while combined fuel consumption is rated at 6.8L/100km.

The MY26 ST-L is particularly well equipped. Inside you'll find leather-accented seating, heated front seats, power driver's seat, dual-zone climate control, 12.3-inch infotainment, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation and wireless phone charging.

There's plenty of clever technology too. ProPILOT with Lane Keep Assist helps take some of the workload out of longer journeys, while Nissan's upgraded 3D Around View Monitor includes clever Skeleton Hood and T-Junction views, giving you a better look at what's around - and even beneath the front of - the vehicle when manoeuvring.
