Kia Safety
Occupant safety is an absolute priority for Kia and we invest substantially to ensure the highest standards of safety throughout the range.
Working closely with leading industry and government bodies Kia ensures the highest safety standards and compliance.
In 2007 the Carnival and Sorento received “Good” ratings - the highest possible rating for rear impact collisions conducted by the IIHS in the USA
Bluetooth
This system allows user to answer and make calls without using their mobile phone whilst driving thereby reducing the distraction levels of the driver. The Kia Bluetooth
system is integrated with the factory audio system with the controls usefully mounted on the steering wheel.
Telescopic Steering
This enables the driver to not only tilt the steering column but to also pull the steering wheel back and forward. This improved axis of adjustability assists drivers of
all heights in finding a comfortable driving position.
Reversing Camera with ECM Mirror
Rear View Mirror utilizes an inconspicuous 130-degree rear mounted camera to assist in determining risk factors behind the vehicle whilst reversing. Incorporated into the
rear view mirror is a electrochromic mirror function with dims the headlight glare of cars following behind the vehicle.
Collision Safety
Vehicle Collision Analysis _ Kia uses computerised Vehicle Collision Analysis to assess safety performance of the vehicle from the designing stages for improving customer
safety. For complete analysis of the vehicle and its passengers, multiple vehicle collision simulations, and actual vehicle tests are taken. With computerized applications,
various Vehicle Collision Analyses are being widely applied for passengers’ protection.
Actual Vehicle Collision Tests
ESP (Electronic Stability Programme)
Rated by the NHTSA as what could be the greatest safety innovation since the safety belt, ESP compares the movement of your car with steering-wheel inputs.
If there is any tendency to slide or skid, the system is designed to brake one or more of the wheels and, if necessary, reduce the engine power.
The NHTSA has reported that passenger vehicles have a 30% reduction in fatal single vehicle crashes when equipped with ESP.
In order to fully maximize collision safety, numerous tests are run under severe conditions with numerous road circumstances. These diverse multi-tests range from front,
side, back, offset crashes to car-to-car and car-to-pole crashes. With evaluation from these tests, Kia increases chances of passenger survival and efficiency of protection
systems. Kia consistently tests under various circumstances to satisfy global standards by conducting tests utilised by various safety-related institutions.
Globally _ In 2007, cee’d received the highest safety rating of five stars in the European New Car Assessment Programme. In New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) of National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Magentis, Sportage, Sorento, and Carnival received a five star rating in front and side impact tests, receiving acknowledgement
as safest vehicles. In NCAP of Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), Carnival was also acknowledged as ‘Top Safety Pick’ on all front, side, rear, and collision impact
tests.
Future of safety
To provide even more safety belts and air bags, Kia is developing the intelligent active safety system, Advanced Safety Vehicles (ASV), which will further enhance safety
and reduce the impact of vehicle collision. ASV perceives driving conditions on the road and the driver to readily and actively prevent accidents, reduce collision damage,
confirm collision safety, and minimize damage magnifications. ASV will be connected to the Intelligent Transport System (ITS), which will bring the same safety features from
the ASV to the road.
